The Teenage Nightmare
Middle school and high school are hard enough without the constant anxiety of looking in the mirror and seeing new breakouts every single day. But that was my reality. I tried everything the dermatologists recommended – harsh prescriptions that destroyed my skin barrier, expensive treatments that emptied my wallet, countless "miracle" products that influencers swore by. I even tried antibiotics and Spironolactone, which would help the acne temporarily but absolutely wrecked my gut health and made everything worse long-term.
The Wake-Up Call That Never Came
You know what's really devastating? Holding onto hope that you'll "grow out of it." But there I was in my mid-30s, dealing with both wrinkles AND acne. The combination felt completely insane. I remember thinking about my younger self – the girl who thought this nightmare would end after high school – and feeling so defeated knowing the struggle would continue for decades.
